In the dynamically powerful, yet delicate sound of Karin Nakagawa’s koto and voice, combined with the ethereal whisper of Arve Henriksen’s trumpet, an unrehearsed dialogue unfolds into a rare synchronism between two souls. The duet is reminiscent of an archaic hymn to transience, which finds its solace in the embrace of beauty.
This recording — the result of a mere four-hour, fully improvised first musical encounter — successfully captures the magic dwelling in each new beginning. A sensitive search for melodies, rhythms and moods, motivated by the curiosity of the first time, reinforces the beauty of impermanence and suggests that perhaps everything in life is unrehearsed and nothing can be held on to—not even an idea.
